What is psychological assessment? Psychological assessment is a specialized service used to make determinations about an individual’s skills and abilities. Oftentimes people seek an assessment to understand their difficulties in the context of a specific diagnosis. Although this can be a useful and necessary outcome, our center is committed to focusing on the whole person and not simplifying to “just a diagnosis.” Ultimately, our goal is to understand the “bigger picture” and make recommendations regarding helpful strategies and/or interventions so the challenges someone faces are less distressing. During the assessment, a clinical psychologist will talk with you about your concerns/background and administer standardized tests designed to collect data about your cognitive processes, behaviors, emotions, and personality.
How much does an assessment cost? The average cost of an assessment ranges from $1600-$3000. For shorter evaluation services, the average cost is $200-850. Cognitive Insight Center, Inc is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization. Limited slots for reduced-fee services may be available. To qualify for reduced-fee services, you must complete an application and provide documentation of financial need.
How long does it take to complete an evaluation? When will I get my results? The time commitment for a psychological evaluation depends on the goals for the assessment. Testing services are conducted over 2+ total appointments. Appointments can sometimes be several hours in length, oftentimes 3-8 hours. An assessment is typically a three-step process (consultation-evaluation-feedback session/review results). From start to finish an average assessment takes 3-5 weeks.
Do you accept insurance? Dr. Kellk is currently an in-network provider with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM). Please be aware that all plans are unique and we cannot guarantee coverage, so we encourage all clients to contact their insurance company to clarify benefits.
For all other plans, Dr. Kellk is out-of-network. This means you are responsible for the full fee at the time of service (see above for average assessment costs). You will be provided with the necessary documents for you to submit to your insurance company should you wish to pursue reimbursement. Depending on your insurance plan, you may be reimbursed a portion of the fee. However, some insurance companies are no longer covering assessments for autism and ADD/ADHD. There are many advantages to choosing an out-of-network provider such as more control over your health information and privacy (no access to diagnostic information, documents, etc). Further, insurance carriers frequently place unreasonable restrictions on testing-An assessment with Cognitive Insight Center, Inc ensures your care is dictated by your/your child’s needs, not what the insurance company is willing to cover.
